The Beehive, and random acts of kindness

This is the great family, Steve and Linda and their girls, who own the Beehive in Rome, Italy.  They left California for a dream about 12 years ago.  The Beehive is about a 5 minute walk from the Termini train station (the main train station in Rome...and the busiest) and it is an oasis in the chaos which is Rome.  We travelled there back in 2006 for the first time.  We read a great review in the Rick Steves guide book about it and decided to check it out.  We stayed in the dorm room which slept 8 people (men and woman).  It was a really neat thing to try and we met a lot of travellers that way.  We have since then stayed at their beautiful apartments a number of blocks away twice while in Rome.  The year, 2007, we were staying at the Beehive when we were robbed, near the Vatican, and I lost everything including my passport.  It was so upsetting that when we got back to the Beehive we just didn't know what to do.  The next morning Steve and his oldest daughter Guilia were working in their small cafe and noticed we were visibly upset.  After a brief discussion about our choices, Steve encouraged us not to leave Rome. He found us another apartment to stay in for three days (the Beehive was full) until the Canadian Embassy opened.  We have never forgotten his kindness and Guillia's sweet and genuine concern for us....I think she was 5 or 6 years old at the time.  Every time we travel to Rome we stay in one of their apartments.  We bring Canadian gifts for the girls and sweet maple treats for the parents.  Our way of thanking them for all that they did for us.
They are a great family and the Beehive is just an extention of them and how they give back to the world.  They have met so many travellers in their 12 years at the Beehive, but Linda always remembers us.  She has just sent me a "Happy Birthday" message on Facebook as they now live in Orvieto ( a totally amazing, beautiful, truly Tuscan village, Deb's favourite, about an hour and a half from Rome) and will not be at the Beehive this weekend.  I encourage anyone who is travelling to Rome to check out their website....it is so worth it.  www.the-beehive.com
"Random acts of kindness".......pass it on.
